Without privacy, our personal affairs with the world would be exposed, which could lead to humiliation, possible harm, etc. Violations of personal privacy often lead to danger and vulnerability to crime. Even with celebrities, privacy is a right they shouldn't be forced to give up. A celebrity never agrees to lose their privacy, since no contract says that, in order to be famous, they must give up their privacy.
A person cannot reflect or grow without being free from the scrutiny of others. The next time you watch a video about the lives of celebrities and start judging them or making fun of them, put yourself in their position and think about how you would feel. I promise you that you would pray for a normal, private life as much as they did. The Human Rights Convention guarantees everyone's right to privacy, as well as their right to freedom of expression.
Since the Human Rights Act came into force in 2000, individuals have been able to assert these rights before UK courts. However, both rights are qualified (or restricted) rights, meaning that they may be limited in certain situations. For example, if a story is in the public interest, a judge may rule that a celebrity's right to privacy should be limited for the general purpose of informing the public. Celebrities have little privacy and it will most likely remain that way.
Some fans may have decency while others may not, but many celebrities have been forced to find new tricks to avoid the public eye. Fans should be considerate and think of the real person behind the fame, because in truth, they are normal people like us.
